ABOUT ME

Hello everyone, my name is Gillian. I am a nurse from Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am currently the Director of Programs and Patient services for Medicine, Urgent care, Geriatric Rehabilitation and the outpatient medical clinic at the Victoria Hospital
I have worked at the same hospital in Winnipeg for 21 years and may just retire here! I feel very fortunate that I work in an organization whos values of respect, dignity, equality and diversity and accountability align with my own personal values. Knowing that exceptional care involves more than good medicine, my mission to is to break down barriers that some individuals and communities feel and ensure we provide safe care for all . The hospital I work in is considered a community hospital that has just over 200 in-patient beds, an Urgent Care and a very successful Surgery program. Our moto is small hospital, big heart and it sure rings true. We have a true sense of family and community, which makes the hard work we do a little easier. The majority of my career was spent in the Emergency department as a front-line nurse and Clinical Educator, I transitioned into management 8 years ago and most recently into my current role as Director. Managing through the Covid pandemic was the hardest 3 years of my career. Trying to get back to pre-pandemic work has been a challenge both emotionally and physically for a lot of front-line workers.
